The price of war, grief and destruction, had at last come home to my village. I lost everything.
I thought I would die in that desolate place, haunted by the slain, until a foreign-looking stranger approached. He seemed untouched by the ravages of war and out of place amidst the ruins of my village. Beneath my calm and peaceful demeanor, he informed me, I had the potential for great power. This stranger would later become my teacher, my Master, and the source of a new purpose for my life.
Master said he could help me grow into my potential, and I should accompany him to the Far East. There was nothing left for me to cling to, no home or family, so I left the once safe boundaries of my village, to follow Master into a foreign land and new beginning. This new life, however, would not prove to be an easy one.
The people in the East were wary of me, a golden-haired, blue-eyed foreigner. Master was the only one who would willingly speak to me, and all he did was drill me in tedious martial arts techniques. As I grew stronger and mastered his lessons, the locals grew jealous and resentful.
I felt even more isolated.
One day, Master brought back a young man from his travels, someone with golden hair, and cerulean blue eyes, like me. I never imagined that I would see such familiar features this far from home. I was surprised and curious about this familiar-looking man from my homeland, and soon, my head was filled with thoughts of him.
In time, he became my everything.
Before I could tell him how I felt, however, he left. After he defeated the Martial God, he joined the Western Frontiers and eventually left for the west without a word to me. After his departure, I felt more lonesome than ever before. I found myself constantly looking out across the sea, missing him. Plagued with the thought of never seeing him again, I made the decision to follow his path westward. I left a note for Master and began my journey back home.
Home, to the place of sad memories. Home, where I hoped to be reunited with him.
Three strange, enormous trees floated in the middle of the ocean. Everyone told themselves it was simply a mirage, cast over the water by a thick, gloomy fog. One of the men on the boat, however, thought something very different. The man adjusted his cap, before proceeding to tell a curious story, a myth perhaps, that had reached the far corners of the world.
The story told of time’s beginning, when three dragons created the world. First, the Golden Dragon flew through the skies and embroidered the stars. The Night Dragon held dominion over the land, and with the help of the Water Dragon, created a great utopia.
Now, the whispers say, if you find the three dragons above the ocean, it foretells a great or terrible event.
As if in response to the passengers words, the ship collided with a boulder beneath the surface of the water. The vessel was breached, and its holds flooded, carrying the crew down to a cold, watery grave. It had been only two days since I had abandoned my Master, and set out to return to my home in the West. Now I was alone, in the enormity of the ocean, without even a glimpse of land. Was this some form of divine punishment?
Eventually, I grew numb to the cold waters, and weariness dragged at my limbs. With a soft sigh, I resigned myself to my fate and allowed myself to sink. I exhaled my final breath, prepared to die. As the darkness started to take me, a burst of blue light seared across my vision, driving it back. The light grew stronger, and my strength along with it, until I could recognize the source of the illumination: a dull gem I carried.
I received the gem on the same day I left for the East. I was holding my Master’s hand, waiting to board the vessel that would take me away from my past, when someone slipped the gem into my other hand. What I thought was just an ordinary stone gave off such a brilliant blue light that it pierced the pitch dark ocean around me. Curiosity was not far behind realization. Who was that unknown hand and why did it entrust this gem to me?
I felt an unfamiliar aura and a voice deep in the recesses of my mind. It was Banha, one of the three dragons who created the world, believed to be no more than a myth.
I had never felt so clear-headed, and in the stillness of my mind, I could hear Banha whisper his story. As I listened, it felt as if I were rediscovering myself, and as his tale came to a close, my breathing slowed and, as if they were submerged in water, my memories drifted away. When my eyes opened, I was on a strange seashore, with no clue to my location. Though I no longer had memories, I could still sense the Banha’s cold aura. It sustained me as I journeyed to recover the memories I lost.
In the process of those adventures, I gained new memories and slowly the old were restored, though it was no easy process. Banha’s last words now spur me onward, to search for Him.
“The Blue Eyes connected by fate will meet again in Bahna’s tears.”
